If you are just starting out or operating on a shoe string budget, you might be wondering what you can do quickly and easily to move your website ranking up in Google.
For several years now, search engine optimization is the most effective and popular marketing strategy for your website, and Google is the primary engine you want to target to improve your organic search engine ranking and drive more targeted visitors. Remember – in the long run an SEO marketing strategy is critical for any Internet company to become successful in an online business. If you operate a small business, such as a plumbing company, you may not think of yourself as an Internet Company, but these days that is where a lot of your business should be coming from. Your alternatives to search engine marketing are more traditional forms of advertising, such as mail campaigns, radio campaigns, tv campaigns which are all very costly, or you can rely on the Yellow Pages.
The first thing you need to understand is how people find you on the internet. Remember, there are literally billions of pages on the internet.
Using our plumbing company example above, if I were searching for a plumber in Atlanta, GA, I may type something like “plumbing repair company atlanta” into Google and look at the listings. The three listings at the top as well as on the right side are paid listings and they may or may not have anything to do with finding a plumber in Atlanta. After the first three I would see the “organic listings”. The companies that are at the top of the listings have the “best and most suitable content” for those terms I searched for – plumbing repair company atlanta. OK – so how do we acquire that content? Through the use of “keywords” which we will discuss in Part II.
